Bed-Stuy’s affordability has lured and kept residents to working and middle-class Brooklyn. During the late 19th century, the now highly sought-after row brownstones replaced wooden houses along the tree lines streets. Given the proximity to downtown Brooklyn and Manhattan, recent community-building programs and artistic initiatives, and the revitalized commercial strips, Bed-Stuy is securing the attention of students, artists, professionals and young families. In the last decade, the area has becoming increasing popular among African-American professionals, much like in Manhattan’s Harlem.
